Designing, analyzing, and building the rocket

Launch Vehicle, Flight Performance, Payload, Recovery, and Airbrakes & Apogee Control carry the rocket from structural design through simulation, mission electronics, and safe recovery — the five divisions responsible for the vehicle that leaves the rail.

Launch Vehicle — DRACO Rocketry Team
/ 01

Launch Vehicle

Launch Vehicle is responsible for designing, manufacturing, assembling, and integrating the rocket into a flight-ready vehicle. This division ensures that all major rocket systems fit together physically and structurally, turning analysis and subsystem work into a real, launch-ready airframe.
Flight Performance — DRACO Rocketry Team
/ 02

Flight Performance

Flight Performance simulates, predicts, and analyzes how DRACO's rockets will behave before launch. This division helps the team make informed design and launch decisions using flight simulation, aerodynamic analysis, and performance modeling — and leads all major simulation work across the team.
Recovery — DRACO Rocketry Team
/ 03

Recovery

Recovery designs and verifies the systems that slow, separate, track, and recover the rocket safely after flight. From drogue to main deployment, this division ensures the vehicle returns intact and recoverable.
Airbrakes & Apogee Control — DRACO Rocketry Team
/ 04

Airbrakes & Apogee Control

Airbrakes & Apogee Control develops the active drag control system that helps DRACO improve apogee accuracy. The division focuses on the mechanical mechanism, control logic, sensors, actuation, and testing, while collaborating with Flight Performance for simulation and aerodynamic validation.
Payload — DRACO Rocketry Team
/ 05

Payload

Payload builds the mission system that gives each rocket a purpose beyond flight, combining mechanical design, electronics, programming, and testing to complete each year's mission objective set by the competition.
/ 06–09Operations, Outreach & Support Divisions

Powering, protecting, and sharing the mission

Business, Safety, Outreach, and Social Media keep the mission funded, safe, and known — securing sponsor support, managing risk and launch readiness, and telling DRACO's story to students, sponsors, and the public.

Safety — DRACO Rocketry Team
/ 06

Safety

Safety protects the team, the rocket, and the mission through disciplined risk management, procedures, and launch-readiness practices. This division builds the culture and documentation that keep every operation controlled and accountable.
Business — DRACO Rocketry Team
/ 07

Business

The Business division supports DRACO by managing sponsor relations, fundraising initiatives, budget coordination, and external partnership efforts. This division helps connect the team's technical ambitions with the resources needed to design, build, test, and launch high-power rockets.
Outreach — DRACO Rocketry Team
/ 08

Outreach

Outreach represents DRACO beyond the rocket by promoting STEM education, connecting with the community, and inspiring students across Puerto Rico. The division builds the next generation of STEM professionals and represents Puerto Rico's aerospace future.
Social Media — DRACO Rocketry Team
/ 09

Social Media

Social Media documents DRACO's progress and communicates the team's story to students, sponsors, alumni, industry partners, and the public. The division shapes how DRACO is seen — and recognizes the partners who make the work possible.
